UnitingCare Ageing and Queanbeyan Uniting Church

Inspired Care… Enriching Lives… Together
UnitingCare Ageing
UnitingCare Ageing is delighted to be appointed as the provider of community care services to the Queanbeyan community.

The Queanbeyan City Council, an existing community care provider in the Queanbeyan and surrounding communities, recently chose to relinquish its funding for the provision of local community aged services. UnitingCare Ageing was one of a number of providers to respond in March 2013 to the Department of Health and Ageing’s (DoHA) selective tender process for a new provider.

By combining the support of Queanbeyan Uniting Church with UnitingCare Ageing’s experience, a tender was submitted to deliver a range of community care services to the Queanbeyan community. The Healthy Living for Seniors model proposed by UnitingCare Ageing focuses on healthy living, independence, social participation and quality of life. UnitingCare Ageing is pleased to share with you that we have been successful in this tender.

Safe Churches Awareness Workshops

Canberra Region Presbytery is hosting two workshops on working with children and vulnerable people, on Friday June 24, and repeated on Saturday June 25. Anyone who is involved in ministry with young people (0-18 years old) or other vulnerable people (disabilities, aged etc) should attend. Anyone with leadership or pastoral roles should attend. These workshops will address both NSW and ACT legislation requirements.

Legislation relating to the safety of children and vulnerable people by both NSW and ACT Governments is either in place or will soon be in place. The Uniting Church has adopted a Safe Church Training Agreement through the National Council of Churches which is consistent with the Government legislation.

Training for people affected by both the legislation and new church policies is being put in place by the NSW/ACT Synod. An information pack is being prepared which will be distributed separately to all ministers in placement and Council secretaries.

The first training workshops in the Presbytery of Canberra Region will be held as follows

Friday 24 June 2011 9.30am-3.30pm at St Columba’s UC, Braddon
Saturday 25 June 2011 9.30am-3.30pm at Queanbeyan UC

Contact: Emma Parr, Child & Vulnerable Persons Protection Coordinator 8276 4290 email: emmap at nsw.uca.org.au

The Presbytery hopes to run the workshops again later in the year for those who can’t make it in June.
