Safe Shelter – St Columba’s and Queanbeyan

Safe Shelter 2016 A5_1Safe Shelter for homeless men re-opened for the winter on 26 April at St Columba’s Uniting Church, Braddon, Canberra with Safe Shelter Queanbeyan formally launching on 27 April.
The St Columba’s Shelter in Braddon operates for three nights – Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday – every week until 29 September, and is a “walk-in” facility.
The Queanbeyan Shelter operates at the Queanbeyan Uniting Church as required to support referrals from the St Benedict’s Community Day Centre. Both are staffed by volunteers, who sleep on the church hall floors, just like the guests.

Safe Church Awareness Workshops

Equipping our church communities to be safe places through growing awareness and understanding of safety and protection.

Who needs to attend ?
Pastoral leaders, Elders/Church Council, Ministers, Children and Youth program leaders and helpers, including SRE/Scripture in schools. Refresher Workshops are for those who have attended a Safe Church Awareness Workshop before and are due for a refresher/update (every 3 years) – more about the refresher option trial below.

NSW/ACT Synod Uniting Mission and Education (UME) are holding the following workshops for Canberra Region Presbytery in October. A Presbytery Youth and Young Adults Service will be held at Queanbeyan Uniting Church, Cnr Rutledge and Crawford Sts, Queanbeyan NSW on Sunday, 29 June at 6pm. All youth and young adults (and anyone who may need to act as taxi) are invited to come along for this exciting event.

Rev Julie Furner from Goulburn will be preaching. We will start with a sausage sizzle and salad (provided by QUC).

Mini-bus for Healthy Living for Seniors Queanbeyan

UnitingCare Ageing Healthy Living for Seniors Queanbeyan client Norma Ferguson receives the keys to the mini-bus on behalf of all clients, from UnitingCare Ageing Community Operations Manager West South Elaine Goddard.

UnitingCare Ageing Healthy Living for Seniors Queanbeyan client Norma Ferguson receives the keys to the mini-bus on behalf of all clients, from UnitingCare Ageing Community Operations Manager West South Elaine Goddard.

UnitingCare Ageing Healthy Living for Seniors Queanbeyan clients will now be able to travel in style to and from the service, thanks to the delivery of a new Toyota Hiace mini-bus. The mini-bus, which was funded by the Commonwealth Department of Social Services, was welcomed by clients, carers, volunteers, staff and representatives from Queanbeyan Uniting Church for the first time when it arrived at Healthy Living for Seniors Queanbeyan on Tuesday 8 April 2014.
