Greenhills Camp and Conference Centre is the Presbytery of Canberra Region’s conference centre near the Cotter River just west of Canberra within the Australian Capital Territory. Please visit greenhillscentre.com for a full run-down on the facilities and opportunities. Currently, Greenhills is looking for a caterer, from 28 February 2007. This job is a full-time position for two people, which would suit a married couple plus casual staff. On-site accommodation is available.
Work has begun on rebuilding accommodation lost in the January 2003 fires at the Uniting Church‚ Greenhills Conference Centre. A contract with Canberra building firm Manteena Pty Ltd was signed on 12 July 2005, almost two years to the day since the fires. Preparatory work on site began in the same week. The contract is for construction of accommodation for 66 beds to re-establish the Cotter Centre. Work is expected to be complete by Christmas.
The tenders were extremely competitive but the reduced scope of 66 beds still took up all the available funds from insurance, additional loans as well as a grant from the Synod Mission Resource Fund totalling approximately $1.5 million.
The management committee has decided that construction of a hall to complement the accommodation is a top priority and fund raising is underway so this project can commence as soon as possible. In recognition of the destroyed Rotary Hall, approaches have been made to Rotary to be involved in this part of the rebuilding. In anticipation of Rotary support, it is proposed that the hall be named the John Louttit Rotary Hall.
Public donations are being sought. All donations sent to Greenhills, 1437 Cotter Road, Cotter 2611 (payable to “Greenhills”) will be acknowledged. After much hard work it is a blessing that Greenhills, rebuilding is finally underway.
