Crookwell welcomes new pastor

The commissioning of Ian Tucker as Lay Pastor to the Crookwell Parish on October 7 was a joyful occasion. Presbytery Chairperson Rev. Norman Wakefield conducted the service, and the congregation packing the Crookwell church just about lifted the rafters during the singing, helped along by the voices of the Crookwell Community Singers.

Rev. Ken Jarvis, a long-time friend of Ian‚’s, delivered a challenging sermon, and of course, the commissioning was followed by a fine supper in best country traditions – trestle tables groaning with sandwiches, cakes and slices.

Although Ian has only been ministering in the Canberra Region Presbytery since 2002 (at Mount Dromedary Parish), in his younger days he served as a Methodist home missionary for nine years, first in Chermside in Brisbane and then in Bundaberg. Family circumstances led him to change careers and he went into specialist book publishing. He spent the latter part of his career with Harcourt Publishing (specialist in medical texts), serving as general manager of professional publishing.
