From NSW/ACT Synod’s Weekly Insights – view here
The Moderator, Rev. Myung Hwa Park encourages us to pray and support the disaster affected areas, specifically the communities and individuals who have been affected by the flooding.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the communities of northern NSW and south-east Queensland. We also pray for those who are tirelessly assisting in recovery and emergency relief efforts,” says Rev. Park.
What you can do
- Pray for the protection and safety of those communities and individuals involved in the floods
- Pray for volunteers and emergency services personnel who are involved in assisting those in distress
- Pray for Disaster Chaplains offering assistance to stressed and grieving individuals
Donate to the Moderator’s Appeal
Please note that as from 12 April the Moderator’s Appeal portal is temporarily down. The Assembly’s National Disaster Relief Fund mentioned below remains open https://assembly.uca.org.au/national-disaster-relief-fund/ Donations of $2 and over are tax-deductible.
Donate to the Moderator’s Appeal by visiting our donation page and selecting “Moderator’s Appeal” in the “I am donating to” section (temporarily down – please go to Assembly’s National Disaster Relief Fund instead).
Securely donate to the Synod of NSW and the ACT’s Moderator’s Appeal through Uniting For Good here. This fund will provide immediate relief but please be aware donations to the Moderator’s Appeal are not tax deductible.
If you wish to make a tax deductible donation the Uniting Church Assembly also has a national disaster relief appeal for longer term projects. The Assembly’s National Disaster Relief Fund remains open to receive donations, with funds to be drawn on by Uniting Churches and agencies supporting recovery in affected areas. https://assembly.uca.org.au/national-disaster-relief-fund/ Donations of $2 and over are tax-deductible.
Lisa Sampson, Media & Fundraising Consultant, Uniting Resource has explained to us that the Assembly fund is tax deductible as it is for longer term projects and they have charitable status for their specific National appeals. Donations to the Moderator’s fund will provide immediate relief, so Synod generally ask people to give to the Moderators fund. However donations are not tax-deductible.
