Safe Shelter – St Columba’s and Queanbeyan

Safe Shelter 2016 A5_1Safe Shelter for homeless men re-opened for the winter on 26 April at St Columba’s Uniting Church, Braddon, Canberra with Safe Shelter Queanbeyan formally launching on 27 April.
The St Columba’s Shelter in Braddon operates for three nights – Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday – every week until 29 September, and is a “walk-in” facility.
The Queanbeyan Shelter operates at the Queanbeyan Uniting Church as required to support referrals from the St Benedict’s Community Day Centre. Both are staffed by volunteers, who sleep on the church hall floors, just like the guests.

It is hoped that the St Columba’s Shelter will be joined for additional nights by at least two other inner-Canberra churches before the end of Winter 2016, although some limited fundraising will be required.
