Presbytery 16th May 2015
The May gathering of Presbytery was held at Braidwood’s centre of community life – The Servicemen’s Club – backing on to the golf club with expansive views of the countryside providing much to enjoy along with the conversation, warm hospitality and delicious barbecue lunch provided and served by members of the Braidwood Congregation.
THE MORNING GATHERING WITH BOB DOUGLAS
Motivating people in a challenging world. Our guest speaker, Em Prof Bob Douglas, gave an invigorating talk which drew together the challenge for the church, the opportunity for links with other organisations, and some practical ways to engage people in change eg “Kitchen table talks”. You can read what Bob said here.
Church-planting: Presbytery Minister, Geoff Wellington, spoke to us about Grace Community in Goulburn with a video in which Rev Aimee Kent and members of the Community provided insights into the way Grace community is developing. Read more in the Autumn issue of Perspective.
‘Breakout’ groups met in three locations around the club, with Geoff, Bob and Community Development Coordinator, Bri Griffiths circulating to allow for questions and discussion from each group. Bri reports that one group began a “table-talk” then and there on the topic of the Uniting Affordable Housing Initiative. Bri’s paper can be downloaded here. The Synod paper can be downloaded here.
AFTERNOON ‘BUSINESS’ MEETING
The meeting unanimously commended Pastor Keith Robinson (Crookwell) for candidature for the Ministry of the Word and his application form, references, council and committee reports and recommendations are being sent to the Synod Selection Panel.
The next Presbytery morning Gathering for all interested Uniting Church members and afternoon business meeting for Presbytery reps, will be held on Saturday 8th August 2015 – venue and other details will be advised.
